by Lassen is now relaunching this chubby model – a shapely lounge chair that makes up the Constance series in combination with a light-weight three-seater sofa. In 1935, these two masterpieces were displayed at cabinetmaker Jakob Kjær’s exhibition stand in the Building of Industry in Copenhagen. Flemming Lassen had designed the furniture for the stand and received an award for his designs prior to the exhibition opening.
The Constance series is a classic Flemming Lassen design with curvy shapes. Inviting and comfortable. Projecting side pieces and buttons in the back. Classic and modern qualities that will never go out of fashion. The duo works well in the middle of a room, as Flemming Lassen’s furniture is always equally beautiful from every angle. It was a mantra for his work that furniture should be pulled away from the wall to be placed as a sculpture in a room.
Originally, the Constance series did not have a name, but we have chosen to name it after Flemming Lassen’s wife, Irene Constance Lassen, who remained his faithful companion until his death in 1984, at the age of 82. In 1940, he was awarded the Eckersberg Medal, an honour given by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in recognition of achievements of high artistic quality in either the mechanical or liberal arts.
